Cooperation for Digital Implant Research

Kiel University (CAU), the Helmholtz Center HEREON and the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) are jointly driving forward the establishment of the Institute for Digital Implant Research (IDIR). The aim of this inter­disciplinary project is to raise implant research and development to a new level using state-of-the-art technologies.

Implant research of the future

At the opening symposium of the IDIR, which took place on June 10, 2024 at the UKSH, Campus Kiel, Prof. Dr. Olav Jansen said: “Gaining the ability to develop complex medical implants in the future using digital twins on the computer can become a game changer in medical technology.” According to the Director of the Clinic for Radiology and Neuroradiology at the UKSH, Kiel Campus, modern implants have become an integral part of medical care and are becoming increasingly important. He is one of the initiators of the cooperation.

On 21.10.24, the IDIR team organized a cooperation workshop in which over 40 researchers from 7 institutions and institutes took part.
