IDIR at Euromech 2026 in Lisbon

Mylena Mordhorst and Alexander Hermann had the opportunity to participate in the Euromech 2026 Colloquium, “Recent Developments in Mechanics of Fracture and Interfaces with Peridynamics and Other Methods,“ in Lisbon.

During the scientific event, both presented their research on magnesium implants and their degradation behavior, as well as simulations investigating the interaction between implant biodegradation and bone regeneration.

On 21 September 2026, Mylena presented her work entitled “Coupling a Peridynamic Corrosion Model with an Agent-Based Cell Model to Study the Interaction Between Magnesium Implant Biodegradation and Bone Regeneration.” On 22 September 2026, Alexander presented his work entitled “Bridging Phase-Field and Peridynamic Corrosion Modeling via a Convergent Nonlocal KKS Extension.”

Their contributions reflect IDIR’s interdisciplinary research on modeling the degradation of magnesium implants and its implications for bone regeneration. The colloquium provided exciting insights into current developments in fracture mechanics and peridynamics, as well as a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with researchers from around the world.

We are pleased that IDIR was represented at this international scientific event and had the opportunity to present its research on innovative modeling approaches for magnesium implants.
